SPRING

The resilience of Spring is a lesson we get to observe every year. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, spring is the manifestation of the growing power of the wood element and thereby it affects the liver because it resembles its on-going, on- growing and, self regenerating endowment.

Did you know that you can help your liver to reach its potential in the Spring months? that you can recover muscle strength and vitality by doing some simple qigong practices for 3 weeks on a row? or that an emotional state such is anger can be detrimental for your liver organ? Furthermore, what does that mean for a westerner (with no knowledge of TCM or Qi-gong)? What role does the liver play not only on your health, but also on your overall wellbeing? The isolationist view of conventional medicine has taught us, by trial and error, that we can not isolate organs or an illness to a one particular thing or event. It is a the total coordination of all the organs, microbiota and environment that composes what we call “our life”, “our body”  Each individual is its own world. I have to say that I heard that first as I was a child, one of my older sisters would often mention it about others and herself. Only later could I imagine the meaning of such words; although, it seems straight forward, if you take it into your everyday life, you will understand what I mean. Each individual grows at its own pace for its own reasons, any acceleration or deceleration that is forced can bring the balance into a chaos and cause havoc in the body as well as in your  environment. However, once you know how a system works and how to bring it back to balance, you can use the tools in Qi-gong to expand your horizons and innate power to have a healthy grow that accommodates all the right things and people into place to grow with you.
